About the Author

Diane, Olivia, - Cropped.jpg

Diane Seufert Tait was born in Utica, New York, U.S.A. After studying violin performance at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, she moved to Ottawa, Ontario to join the newly formed Arts Centre Orchestra in 1969. She married double bassist, Edward Tait that year. They have two children.

A move to Toronto in 1971 found Diane playing with the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra before joining the Canadian Opera Company orchestra in 1978. She later became assistant concertmaster until her retirement in 2014. Diane and her family spent a year in Italy from 1979-1980 so she and Ed could further their musical studies in Rome. Having always intended to write a book about that experience, she completed Letters from Italy in 2012.

After receiving a diploma in Clinical Herbal Therapy with Dominion Herbal College, Diane began her practice in herbal medicine in 1997. In 2011 her Eden Hyll Botanical Sanctuary in Natural Bridge, New York was accepted as a member of the network of sanctuaries with United Plant Savers.

Diane’s many years as a gardener inspired her latest books, Olivia’s Garden and New Friends in Olivia’s Garden. Both books are intended to entertain children as well as teach them more about the exciting ecosystem in a wild and wonderful herb garden.
